Novel IGBT Chopper for Locomotive Haulage for Industrial and Mining Use

A new type IGBT chopper for locomotive haulage is introduced in the paper, which uses gatecontrolled IGBT as the switch instead of forced currentswitching circuit in siliconcontrolled chopper. The control of the chopper is achieved through single chip microcomputer. The paper also deals with current protection strategy employed in chopper’s speed regulating system.
