Safety analysis of lithium-ion battery power supply applied in coal mine underground

  • Objective: To explore the safety of lithium-ion battery power supply in underground coal mines. Method: A 100A · h mining lithium manganese oxide battery was selected to simulate the environmental characteristics of the coal mine underground, and safety testing was carried out on the power supply of the mining lithium manganese oxide battery. Simulate potential mechanical impacts in the underground environment of coal mines through needle puncture testing, and observe the battery's response under extreme conditions by piercing a sharp object into the battery. In order to accurately simulate the high-temperature environment underground in coal mines, furnace box heating tests are carried out. By conducting overcharging tests to simulate possible overcharging conditions in coal mines, evaluate the performance and safety of batteries under overcharging conditions. Result: After being punctured, the surface of the battery showed certain deformation and rupture, and no dangerous situation occurred. The battery significantly expands after heating in the furnace, accompanied by gas leakage, and has not yet caused explosion or combustion. After the overcharging test, a burning event of the battery was triggered. Conclusion: Lithium ion battery power supply has certain thermal stability in underground coal mine applications.
